Angie In Connecticut

My Plane arrived in New York JFK Airport, my driver waited patiently holding my name up in the air. It was then I realized that The University of Connecticut was not just around the corner.
Three hours later, I arrived at my Hotel. The following morning I was introduced to a lovely warm team of people, who took me shopping and showed me around a beautiful autumn city. As you can imagine, Shoes were bought.

That evening we had dinner with all the guest speakers, hosted by the UNESCO Chair Amii Omara-Otunnu.

The Conference “Women leading the Way” a very powerful day of great stories and information. Sitting on the panel with such amazing, ground breaking Inspirational women, really felt like one of those moments when you know, there is much to do in the world.
I shared my experience, about growing up in London, and the challenges I faced starting out in School and in the entertainment field.  I was also aware of the British accent, and hoped it would be understood, but after my first laugh, I knew I would be ok.

The Students at The University were so open and contributed to a very successful day.
Yomi Abiola, an International Model and guest speaker, invited me to a few speaking engagements in the Schools across Connecticut, which I was excited about, growing up watching The television series Fame, I found while I was walking down the hallway, the need to put my dance clothes on with my colorful legwarmers and repeat the lines that Debbie Allen said to Leroy " You want fame, well fame starts right, and here in sweat, work that body Leroy... Your Body! “Something like that...lol

Yomi introduced me to a few Schools and asked me to speak about 'The Daughters Project,' and my play, ' Do you know where your Daughter is?' Which was received with great interest, with talks to take the play over, and look at an American cast. We are at present working on that.

My evenings were always spent having the most inspiring and moving conversations. Lee Marvin, Vice President of The University of Connecticut was just Awesome, I could talk with him all night, we don't get the chance to see so many people of colour in great positions of power, so to be able to hear their stories and their journey was more than a lesson to me to keep believing in change.

I went to Connecticut to give a speech about my journey, and hoped I would inspire. I have since received so many emails from students and even Teachers, who were moved by my story, but the truth is, I was just as moved by so many stories I heard while I was there.
The Women on the panel, what can I say? But, I was in great company. I will be going back to Connecticut.

Panel guests also include Gov.. Madeleine May Kurin.
Ms Maytte Restrepo-Ruiz, CT Coalition Against Domestic Violence USA.
Ms Teresa C. Younger Executive Director, CT Permanent Commission on the Status of Women USA.
Dr Jeanne d'Arc Mujawamariya of Gender and Family and Promotion, Rwanda
Dr Deepti P, Mehrotra, Activist, Writer and Social Scentist, India.
Dr Lucrecia Ramirez Restrepo, Colombia.

Angie talks to delegates at the 11th annual UNESCO Conference at the University of Connecticut.
